Highly Interactive

Our classes are HIGHLY interactive.  Each class has a plethora of call and response involving the entire class and every student is asked a multitude of questions during lecture time.  All students, (even the ones too shy to raise their hands) participate to test for understanding as well as helping these students develop their voice and confidence.

Discipline, Focus, Accountability

Our classes have a strong emphasis on focus, concentration, discipline and accountability.  As our mantra says, “I will think carefully and make my decisions wisely”.  

Students are trained to raise their hands before comments or questions and learn not to disrupt fellow students or instructors while they are speaking.  

In addition to this, we hold our students accountable for their actions, (including lost workbooks and bandanas!) so they learn the importance of self-ownership and accountability.

Virtue and Sportsmanship

Virtue, integrity and character development are one of the biggest reasons we do what we do!  As our mantra says, “I will treat my opponent with respect taking wins and losses gracefully”.  

We teach our students to operate with a high degree of integrity and honesty while simultaneously showing compassion, patience and kindness to their fellow chess players.

High-Quality Instruction

Through years of development and practice The Chattanooga Chess Dojo has developed lessons and examples to drive home strategic concepts.  We utilize unique terms and teaching methods, infusing our lessons with topics including game theory, logic and mathematics, to clarify highly complex topics ensuring comprehension and success.  

This is not a class where students come and play and walkaway showing minimal improvement.  Our classes have shown to vastly improve comprehension and player performance!
